One year since our rebrand!
What a year it’s been since we launched our new look and name, Day One Hāpai te Haeata, after 17 years as The Outlook for Someday!
At our launch, we heard from our dream team Chris Widdup and Anna Duckworth, and were inspired by alumni Bala Murali Shingade, Mia Maramara, and Angela Cudd of Caravan Carpark Films. We kicked off with an evening of shared kai, drinks, and conversations on building community and empowering young creatives.

Some 2024 highlights:
🎬 Supported 8 teams in producing their first funded short films for Day One Series 2024 (formerly Someday Stories).
📅 Expanded The Day One Challenge to filmmakers up to 29, with two application dates.
📹 Launched our How To series—28 one-minute videos on filmmaking available across socials.
🎧 Released podcast episodes with Aotearoa Independent Film x Day One 🎥 Premiere Screening of Day One Shorts 2024 at a sold-out Hollywood Theatre on September 3.
🏫 Took Screen Storytelling Workshops to schools and small groups across the country.
🏆 Ended with a bang at the New Filmmaker Awards 2024 on December 15, celebrating the talented young filmmakers we work with.

We’re pumped for 2025, with 8 new teams on board for Day One Shorts 2025 and more ways to amplify young voices in film.

Thanks to everyone for being part of the journey! 🙌 and a special thank you to @curative_nz the masterminds behind our beautiful evolution! And for your ongoing support! #DayOne #Filmmaking #YoungCreatives
