Applications are now open for Day One Shorts 2026.

Day One are excited to invite applications for Day One Shorts 2026. This year we're funding 8 x short films with new directors in Aotearoa to make their first professionally funded short film with urgent themes that matter to them.

We welcome applications from teams with new directors 18-29 years old in Aotearoa; Māori filmmakers AND yep, we still have our 30+ category for 2 films with directors over 30.
